Encouraging employee attendance at work, and why it matters

When a startup initiates the idea in the market, this is high time for the startup and often the attendance remains full. People are passionate, busy, and highly-motivated to jump-start the business and make some profit.

In the modern era where time is money it is vital to monitor the attendance of the employees. Here is a system which can manage and monitor attendance of the people, it gets easier for the managers and CEO to distribute the bonus based-upon the results generated by the system.

If your employees are not showing up and staying at home, why not try some of these tips to help the employees run to the office and do some actual work with a smile on their faces.

Employees love equality

If the manager is arriving late and he is expecting the employee to arrive early, this is insane thinking. The policy should be same for everyone and anyone in the company. Starting from the office boy right to the CEO of the company.

A policy which is based on equality will encourage the employees to come early and leave when their manager leaves the office. In this way the employees will not feel the burden of working long-hours when their managers are working too.

If you’re running a startup every employee is important. No one can miss a single day in the first few months. Same goes with teachers, customer service reps, and technical support staff. These are people who cannot afford the luxury of taking one day off from their jobs. Otherwise other people need to take care of their work which won’t be the same thing.

Train your staff to call and inform the situation

When I was working for a startup, it was in the policy to inform the manager as well the HR department by email or by call in the morning if I was facing difficulty coming to work that day.

In this way people were trained to tell when they’re not coming to office and something can be done in the morning. Not just this. When the employee come back the next day, it is the responsibility of the manager to welcome them with open arms. This encourages the employees to take responsibility for the work and inform prior that they are coming to office or not. Getting angry at co-workers is not the solution to the problem. If you want employees to tell you why they took a day off, let them tell it when they feel like sharing it.

The flexible working hours

Research suggest that it is not 8 or 9 hours, any employee is productive for 5 hours a day. More than that and employees starts hating the job and their managers. Avoid the vigorous work-culture and try to give your employees a flexible working schedule. Most of the time the attendance is short due to some family matter. Single mothers often face a lot of problems with their kids and they must deal with those problems as soon as they arise.

Instead of overloading work hours, it is better to tell the employees that they can even work from home or choose the working hours in which they will compensate for the work which was left in office. So, the workplace flexibility is a must when it comes to motivating employees to take less leaves and work even from their homes.

Recognition for the employees

It is vital to reward employees who are doing the work even when it is difficult for them. Most of the time the work of the employees who work from home get ignored. But to keep the employees motivated it is best to recognize them in front of everyone and give them a bonus for it. The monetary rewards give the employees a motivation to get done with the work even from their home and avoid being absent all the time. These policies when initiated rightly encourages the employees to kill the temptation to take day off and work to earn some money.

Don’t tell, show the consequences

It is the responsibility of the manager to show the consequences of not showing up and not doing the given work on time. Showing the employees, the consequences are important. Because when people know what they will lose if they don’t follow the policies, they will not try to be absent without any genuine reason.

To wrap it all up

It is the core responsibility of the manager to create an office environment where people love to come everyday and leave all their problems at home. A good workplace is also where people don’t take their work problems back home. Whatever is done, it is enough for the day, the rest can be taken care of tomorrow.
