How to make marketing a new business (or product) more successful

Owning a business and/or releasing new products on the market can be very exciting. However, it can also be very time consuming. For starters, every new business and product must start building a unique brand. It is up to you to figure out how to build your brand.

Building your brand is reliant on finding ways to effectively market your business and/or product. Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to make this happen through offline or online marketing.

Define your market

The biggest mistake you can make when marketing a new product or business is skipping important first steps. Namely, it doesn’t matter how well you set up a marketing plan or how much money you throw at marketing if you don’t know who you are marketing to. You need to define your target audience to understand exactly who you are selling to.

For example, you could say your target audience is women. You could, however narrow that down by determining whether you are targeting stay-at-home women or working women. In addition to profession, knowing the age groups and interests of your target audience will also help. The more details you have about your target audience, the better off you’ll be.

Consider affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a great place to start whether you are promoting a new business or a new product. In terms of a new business, finding the best affiliate networks is one of the easiest way to start generating some revenue. This type of marketing will help generate sales and traffic for your company.

Think of it this way, you didn’t build a “better” mousetrap, you built the ultimate mousetrap! Yet, the world is not beating a path to your door because nobody actually knows about it. An affiliate marketer can bring news of your product to multiple advertisers at the same time, increasing your chances for sales.

Create a sales plan

Now, it is time to create your sales plan. A sales plan is another one of those basic steps some people forget to take. Fortunately, your sales plan doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a simple – and private– piece of paper for you to organize your thoughts regarded sales strategies. A sales plan will normally include:

  • Sales goals
  • Sales tactics
  • Timelines/deadlines

Your sales plan should also include how your targeted audience likes to spend time, and how you plan on reaching them with information about your brand. The key to creating a successful sales plan is writing it up in a way that makes sense for you. Instead of following a sales plan template, freestyle your plan onto a blank piece of paper.

Coupons and specials

Customers like coupons, specials, deals, and discounts. Offering coupons or having a special promotion is a great way to draw attention to yourself. Consumers are also more open to testing the waters with a new business or product when they can get discounted prices.

Samples and trials

With a new business or product, you may have to spend a little money to make a lot of money. Samples, trials, and other free giveaways are a great way to give people a taste of what you have to offer. This is also a great way to create a snowball effect of word-of-mouth advertising. A handful of people get free samples and trials of your product, and then they tell their friends and family members what they think of the product. The handful of products you gave away ends up creating a buzz.

Social media

Purchasing a sponsored post on Facebook is a quick and easy way to get your brand name in front of the eyes of thousands of targeted people. The best part of sponsored posts on social media is that you determine how much you want to spend and how long you want to run the campaign for. You even define the audience you are targeting with the campaign.

As you can see, there are tons of ways to successfully promote a new business and/or product. As an added bonus, a number of these methods are cheap enough for an individual who just poured buckets of money into starting a business to afford.
