It’s simpler than you think to keep your office safe
When you’re running a business, health and safety, does need to be at the top of your list of priorities. You need to make sure that when you are running your company employees do feel safe and protected. This doesn’t mean you have to massively alter your business model. Nor does it mean that you have to spend a fortune changing your company. Instead, there are a few simple yet vital steps that you should take to ensure that health and safety standards in your business are as high as they need to be.
Get things checked out
The first thing to do is to make sure that you are getting your systems checked regularly. You may want to think about looking at the sprinkler systems for fires. Obviously, it is imperative that these work effectively in the event of an emergency. However, the pipes have been known to corrode in these systems, and if that happens, then the fire will not be dealt with as quickly as it should. This can have a catastrophic impact.
As well as checking these systems, you should make sure that the fire alarms are also working. Analogue Electrics LTD recommends that you check these systems a few times each year to ensure that they are working effectively. Remember, if the alarm isn’t functioning no one can be warned that there’s fire.
Appoint a health and safety officer
You must make sure that you hire this key individual in your business. They will respond to any issues with health and safety and make sure that problems are dealt with accordingly. For instance, someone might trip up on the carpet in your business. If that does happen, a health and safety officer should be on the scene immediately. They will check what has happened and make an accurate record of the occurrence. They will also ensure that whoever is injured gets the medical treatment that they deserve.
A health and safety officer will also check your premises on a regular basis to ensure that there are no issues that could result in an accident.
Keep employees trained up
You do need to make sure that you are keeping your employees trained. Remember, if an accident does occur on your business premises the likelihood is that it was due to the action of an employee in your office. It’s incredibly rare for an accident to be the result of a problem with tech or indeed anything else. So, it is in your best interest to make sure that employees are well trained to ensure that problems with health and safety can be avoided completely.
Work with legal or HR
Last but not least make sure you do have someone you can talk to in your business who will advise you about the legal issues surrounding health and safety. It’s one thing to make sure that you are keeping employees safe but are you abiding by set regulations? If not it’s time to change that and make sure that you do understand what your responsibilities are by law.
